Shapta (tibetan Style Spicy Beef Curry)
Shapta is a traditional Tibetan style spicy beef curry that is popular in Sikkimese cuisine. It is a flavorful and aromatic dish that is perfect for warming up on a cold day.
Ingredients
- 500g beef, thinly sliced
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 3-4 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until they are soft and golden brown.
- Add the minced ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the beef slices and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the turmeric, cumin, coriander, and chili powders. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and soy sauce. Season with salt to taste.
- Cover the pan and let the curry simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
