Shashlik Surprise (Шашлык)
Шашлык (Shashlik) is a popular dish in Kyrgyz cuisine, typically made with marinated meat skewered and grilled to perfection. This recipe adds a surprise twist to the traditional shashlik, making it a flavorful and aromatic delight for your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 1 kg lamb or beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped onions, minced garlic, olive oil, white vinegar, salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, and fresh cilantro. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Add the meat cubes to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated meat onto skewers, alternating with pieces of onion if desired.
- Grill the shashlik for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Remove the shashlik from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
