Shawarma (aleppo Spiced Chicken)
Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern street food, and this Aleppo spiced chicken version is a delicious twist on the classic. The Aleppo spice blend adds a unique and flavorful kick to the tender chicken, making it a perfect filling for pita sandwiches or wraps.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Aleppo pepper
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread or flatbreads
- Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions for serving
- Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, Aleppo pepper, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken thighs and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Warm the pita bread or flatbreads in the skillet or oven. Place the cooked chicken on the warm bread and top with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions. Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic sauce.
- Roll up the bread to form a wrap and serve immediately.
