Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread or flatbreads
- Sliced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers for serving
- Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add the sliced chicken to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Warm the pita bread or flatbreads in the skillet or oven.
- Assemble the shawarma by placing the cooked chicken on the warm bread, along with sliced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic sauce.
- Roll up the bread to enclose the filling and serve immediately.
