Shawarma (grilled Shish Tawook Wraps)
Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern dish that is loved for its flavorful and tender grilled meat. In Kuwaiti cuisine, Shawarma is often made with marinated chicken, known as Shish Tawook, and served in a wrap with fresh vegetables and a delicious sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread or flatbreads
- Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions for serving
- Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the yogurt, garlic, paprika, cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and coat them well. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers and grill for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Warm the pita bread or flatbreads on the grill for a minute on each side.
- Assemble the shawarma wraps by placing the grilled chicken, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions on the bread. Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic sauce.
- Roll up the wraps and serve immediately.
