Shawirma (saudi Arabian Shawarma)
Shawirma, also known as Shawarma, is a popular Middle Eastern street food that has gained worldwide popularity. This Saudi Arabian version of Shawirma is made with marinated meat, typically chicken or beef, and is traditionally served with pita bread, tahini sauce, and pickled vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless chicken or beef, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Pita bread, for serving
- Tahini sauce, for serving
- Pickled vegetables, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the yogurt, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Add the sliced meat to the marinade and coat well. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated meat and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until fully cooked.
- Warm the pita bread and assemble the Shawirma with the cooked meat, tahini sauce, and pickled vegetables.
