Shekerbura (fragrant Sesame And Honey Cookies)
Shekerbura is a traditional Azerbaijani pastry filled with fragrant sesame and honey, perfect for celebrating the spring holiday of Novruz.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and softened butter. Gradually add water and knead the dough until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the sesame seeds, honey, and ground cardamom to make the filling.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out circles using a cookie cutter.
- Place a spoonful of the sesame and honey filling in the center of each circle, then fold the edges to form a triangle shape, pinching the corners to seal.
- Place the filled cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the shekerbura cool before serving.
