Sherpa Stew
Sherpa Stew is a traditional Nepalese dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for warming up on a cold day. This stew is packed with tender meat, vegetables, and aromatic spices, making it a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb or beef, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups beef or vegetable broth
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger, and sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the meat to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Pour in the broth and bring the stew to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the meat is tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Sherpa Stew hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
