Shish Taouk (omani Spiced Chicken Skewers)
Shish Taouk is a popular Omani dish consisting of spiced chicken skewers that are perfect for grilling or barbecuing. The chicken is marinated in a flavorful blend of spices and yogurt, resulting in tender and juicy skewers that are bursting with flavor.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, cut into chunks
- 1 bell pepper, cut into chunks
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Add the chicken cubes to the marinade, making sure they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken, onion, and bell pepper onto skewers.
- Grill the skewers for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
- Serve the Shish Taouk hot with rice, salad, or flatbread.
