Shish Taouk (omani Spiced Chicken Skewers)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the chicken cubes to the marinade, making sure they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken, onion, and bell pepper onto skewers.
  4. Grill the skewers for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
  5. Serve the Shish Taouk hot with rice, salad, or flatbread.
