Shish Tawook (emirati Spiced Chicken Skewers)
Shish Tawook is a popular Emirati dish consisting of spiced chicken skewers that are perfect for grilling or barbecuing. The marinade is bursting with Middle Eastern flavors, making it a delicious and aromatic dish.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large onion, cut into chunks
- 1 large bell pepper, cut into chunks
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, garlic, olive oil, tomato paste, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add the chicken cubes to the marinade, making sure they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken, onions, and bell peppers onto skewers.
- Grill the skewers for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
- Serve the Shish Tawook hot with rice, pita bread, or a fresh salad.
