Shish Tawook (sudanese Spiced Chicken Skewers)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large red onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the yogurt, garlic, olive oil, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken cubes and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  2. Preheat the stovetop grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken, red onion, and bell peppers onto skewers.
  3. Grill the skewers for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
