Shorba (lamb And Lentil Stew)
Shorba is a traditional Afghan lamb and lentil stew that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a comforting meal. This recipe combines tender lamb, earthy lentils, and aromatic spices to create a delicious and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 cup lentils, rinsed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 6 cups chicken or beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the lamb cubes and brown them on all sides. Remove the lamb from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the turmeric, cumin, and coriander to the pot, stirring to coat the onions and garlic with the spices.
- Return the browned lamb to the pot. Add the lentils, diced tomatoes, and carrots. Pour in the chicken or beef broth.
- Bring the shorba to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the lamb is tender and the lentils are cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the shorba hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
