Shorba (omani Spiced Chicken Soup)
Shorba is a traditional Omani spiced chicken soup that is perfect for warming up on a chilly day. This comforting soup is packed with aromatic spices and tender chicken, making it a flavorful and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 8 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, sauté the onions and garlic until softened.
- Add the chicken pieces and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring the soup to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the shorba hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
