Shorshe Maach (traditional Fish Curry)
Shorshe Maach is a traditional fish curry from Bangladeshi cuisine that is known for its rich and flavorful mustard-based sauce. This dish is a staple in Bengali households and is often served with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 4 pieces of fish (such as Rohu or Hilsa)
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 2 tbsp mustard paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish until golden brown. Set aside.
- In the same pan, add mustard paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add water and bring to a simmer.
- Gently place the fried fish into the sauce and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
