Silesian Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Gołąbki śląskie)

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes, until they are pliable. Remove and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, marjoram, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, then roll them up, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the rolls seam-side down in a large pot.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce and broth. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls in the pot.
  5. Cover the pot and simmer the cabbage rolls over low heat for 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the meat is cooked through.
  6. Serve the gołąbki śląskie hot, with a dollop of sour cream if desired.
