Sindhi Dal Makhani

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole black lentils
  • 1/4 cup red kidney beans
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the black lentils and kidney beans overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the lentils and beans with salt until soft.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  4. Add chopped onions, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until golden brown.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Cook until the ghee separates.
  6. Add the cooked lentils and beans to the pan. Mix well and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Pour in the cream and cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
