Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water

Instructions

  1. Coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the garlic, onion, and bell pepper until fragrant and slightly softened.
  4. Add the fried tofu back into the skillet.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and vegetable broth. Pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables.
  6. Let the sauce simmer and thicken, then drizzle with sesame oil and the cornstarch-water mixture to further thicken the sauce.
  7. Transfer the sizzling tofu to a preheated hot plate and garnish with chopped green onions.
