Sizzling Tofu (铁板豆腐)
铁板豆腐 (Sizzling Tofu) is a popular American Chinese dish that features crispy tofu served on a sizzling hot plate with a savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water
Instructions
- Coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the garlic, onion, and bell pepper until fragrant and slightly softened.
- Add the fried tofu back into the skillet.
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and vegetable broth. Pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables.
- Let the sauce simmer and thicken, then drizzle with sesame oil and the cornstarch-water mixture to further thicken the sauce.
- Transfer the sizzling tofu to a preheated hot plate and garnish with chopped green onions.
