Slani Burek (savory Cheese Pie)
Slani Burek, also known as Savory Cheese Pie, is a traditional dish from Montenegrin cuisine. This delicious pie is made with layers of thin phyllo pastry filled with a savory cheese mixture, and it's perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 10 sheets of phyllo pastry
- 250g feta cheese, crumbled
- 200g cottage cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the feta cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, milk, yogurt, olive oil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Place one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush it with olive oil. Repeat with 4 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over the stacked phyllo sheets.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining 5 sheets of phyllo pastry and the rest of the cheese mixture.
- Roll the layered phyllo and cheese into a log shape and place it in a greased baking dish.
- Brush the top of the pie with a little more olive oil.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
