Slivovitz, also known as Transylvanian Plum Brandy, is a traditional alcoholic beverage from Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. This strong and aromatic brandy is made from fermented plums and is a popular drink for special occasions and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 2 kg ripe plums
- 1 kg sugar
- 5 liters of water
Instructions
- Wash the plums and remove the pits.
- Place the plums in a large glass or ceramic container.
- Add the sugar and water to the container.
- Cover the container with a clean cloth and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 3 months, stirring occasionally.
- After 3 months, strain the liquid and transfer it to bottles for storage.
- Let the Slivovitz age for at least 6 months before serving.
