Slovak Goulash (Slovenský guláš)
Slovenský guláš, or Slovak Goulash, is a traditional dish from Slovakia known for its rich and hearty flavors. This comforting stew is perfect for warming up on a cold day and is often enjoyed with a side of bread or potatoes.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 red bell peppers, diced
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 3 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic, sweet paprika, and caraway seeds, and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the diced bell peppers, beef broth, and tomato paste. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
