Langoš is a popular Central European street food that originated in Slovakia. It is a deep-fried flatbread topped with various savory ingredients, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 packet dry yeast
- Oil for deep-frying
- Garlic, grated (optional)
- Shredded cheese (optional)
- Sour cream (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Stir in the flour and salt until the dough comes together.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal parts.
- On a floured surface, roll out each portion of dough into a flat round shape.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan or pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully place the rolled-out dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the langoš from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Top with grated garlic, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream if desired.
