Soda Bread And Whiskey Butter

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons Irish whiskey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly flour a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until the dough comes together.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead into a round loaf. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Cut a deep cross in the top of the loaf and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  5. While the bread is baking, make the whiskey butter by combining the softened butter and Irish whiskey in a small bowl. Mix until well combined.
  6. Once the bread is done, transfer it to a wire rack to cool. Serve slices of the soda bread with a generous spread of whiskey butter.
