Soda Bread And Whiskey Butter
Soda bread and whiskey butter are a classic combination in Northern Irish cuisine. The hearty soda bread pairs perfectly with the rich and creamy whiskey butter, creating a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons Irish whiskey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly flour a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead into a round loaf. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
- Cut a deep cross in the top of the loaf and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- While the bread is baking, make the whiskey butter by combining the softened butter and Irish whiskey in a small bowl. Mix until well combined.
- Once the bread is done, transfer it to a wire rack to cool. Serve slices of the soda bread with a generous spread of whiskey butter.
