Ingredients

  • 2 cups idli rice
  • 1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the idli rice and urad dal separately and soak them in water for 4-6 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked rice and dal separately to a smooth batter, then mix them together with salt and fenugreek seeds.
  3. Ferment the batter overnight or for 8-10 hours until it doubles in volume.
  4. Grease the idli molds and pour the batter into each mold.
  5. Steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes until they are cooked through and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow the idlis to cool slightly before removing them from the molds.
