Sorbeti Ya Embe (swahili Mango Sorbet)
Sorbeti ya Embe, also known as Swahili Mango Sorbet, is a refreshing and tangy dessert that originates from the coastal region of Tanzania. This simple and delightful sorbet is the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Place the diced mangoes in a blender or food processor. Add the cooled sugar syrup and fresh lime juice. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the mango mixture into a shallow dish and place it in the freezer.
- Every 30 minutes, remove the dish from the freezer and use a fork to scrape and stir the mixture, breaking up any ice crystals. Repeat this process until the sorbet is firm and scoopable, about 2-3 hours.
- Once the sorbet is ready, scoop it into serving dishes and enjoy!
