Sorrel Leaves Chutney (gongura Pachadi)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh sorrel leaves
  • 4-5 green chilies
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the sorrel leaves and green chilies. Chop them finely.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds.
  3. Add the chopped sorrel leaves and green chilies. Sauté until the leaves wilt.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
  6. Once cooled, grind the mixture along with grated coconut to a coarse paste.
  7. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
  8. Enjoy the tangy and spicy sorrel leaves chutney with rice or any other dish of your choice.
