Sorrel Leaves Lamb Curry (gongura Mamsam)
Sorrel Leaves Lamb Curry, also known as Gongura Mamsam, is a popular dish in Telugu cuisine. The tangy flavor of sorrel leaves combined with tender lamb makes this curry a delightful and flavorful meal.
Ingredients
- 500g lamb, cut into pieces
- 2 cups sorrel leaves (gongura), washed and chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the lamb pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the chopped sorrel leaves and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Pour in the water, cover the pan, and simmer for 45 minutes or until the lamb is tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
