Ingredients

  • 4 cups pitted sour cherries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 pre-made pie crusts
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the pitted sour cherries, sugar, flour, almond extract, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the cherry filling into the crust and dot with butter.
  4. Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges, then cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  5. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
