Sourdough Bread Without Starter
Sourdough bread is a beloved classic, but not everyone has a sourdough starter on hand. This recipe provides a way to make delicious sourdough bread without the need for a starter.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- After resting, knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 3 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a Dutch oven with the lid on in the oven while it preheats.
- Once the dough has risen, carefully place it into the preheated Dutch oven. Score the top of the dough with a sharp knife.
- Bake the bread with the lid on for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
