Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  4. After resting, knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 3 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a Dutch oven with the lid on in the oven while it preheats.
  7. Once the dough has risen, carefully place it into the preheated Dutch oven. Score the top of the dough with a sharp knife.
  8. Bake the bread with the lid on for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
