Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1 onion, grated
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, grated onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes, red wine, water, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the soutzoukakia hot, with your choice of side dishes.
