Sulu Köfte, also known as spiced meatballs in tomato sauce, is a traditional dish from Crimean Tatar cuisine. This flavorful and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup rice
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, rice, cumin, paprika, black pepper, and salt until well combined. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides.
- Pour in the beef or vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the rice is tender.
- Season with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve the Sulu Köfte hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley.
