Spiced Plum Cake (Gewürzter Pflaumenkuchen)

Ingredients

  • 500g plums, pitted and halved
  • 200g all-purpose flour
  • 150g granulated sugar
  • 100g unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, spices, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Arrange the plum halves on top of the batter, pressing them in slightly.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve the spiced plum cake at room temperature, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
