Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 pound beef, cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
- 2 teaspoons coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cups beef or vegetable broth
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.
- Add the beef cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, paprika, and cinnamon stick. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are softened.
- Stir in the basmati rice and coat it with the spice mixture.
- Pour in the beef or vegetable broth, season with salt, and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice simmer for 20-25 minutes until it is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and remove the cinnamon stick before serving.
