Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 pound beef, cubed
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.
  2. Add the beef cubes and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, paprika, and cinnamon stick. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are softened.
  5. Stir in the basmati rice and coat it with the spice mixture.
  6. Pour in the beef or vegetable broth, season with salt, and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice simmer for 20-25 minutes until it is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and remove the cinnamon stick before serving.
