Spiced Yellow Pea Salad (ghughni Chaat)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried yellow peas
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tamarind chutney
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried yellow peas in water for 4-5 hours, then drain.
  2. Cook the soaked peas in a pot of water until tender, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked peas, chopped onion, diced tomatoes, green chili, tamarind chutney, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately.
