Ingredients

  • 2 cups yellow peas, soaked and boiled
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • Water for kneading
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat some oil and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the boiled yellow peas and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  4. In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, ghee, and a pinch of salt. Knead into a stiff dough using water.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a small disc. Place a spoonful of the yellow pea filling in the center and seal the edges to form a stuffed ball.
  6. Flatten the stuffed balls slightly and deep fry in hot oil until golden and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve the Spiced Yellow Pea Stuffed Pastry hot with chutney or sauce.
