Spiced Yellow Peas (ghughni)
Spiced Yellow Peas (Ghughni) is a popular dish from Jharkhandi Cuisine, known for its rich flavors and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried yellow peas
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the dried yellow peas in water for 4-5 hours, then drain.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté for a minute.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- Add the turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the drained yellow peas and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add water as needed and let it simmer until the peas are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
