तातेको बारा (Spicy Bara) is a popular Newari dish that is enjoyed as a snack or appetizer. It is a savory pancake made with ground black lentils and seasoned with spices, making it a flavorful and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 2 cups black lentils, soaked overnight
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Drain the soaked lentils and grind them into a smooth batter.
- Transfer the batter to a bowl and add chopped onion, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Spoon the batter onto the pan to form small pancakes and fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the bara from the pan and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with achar (pickle) or yogurt on the side.
