Spicy Chettinad Chicken Curry
Spicy Chettinad Chicken Curry is a traditional dish from the Tamil Cuisine known for its bold flavors and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 cup sesame oil
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat sesame oil in a pan and add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, and cumin seeds. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Now, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the tomato puree, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 10 minutes.
- Add grated coconut and curry leaves. Cook for another 10 minutes until the chicken is tender and the curry thickens.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
