Spicy Chicken Skewers (Tavuk Şiş)
Tavuk Şiş, or Spicy Chicken Skewers, is a traditional dish from Crimean Tatar cuisine that is bursting with flavor. These skewers are perfect for grilling and are a great addition to any barbecue or gathering.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 large onion, cut into chunks
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, black pepper, and salt to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the plain yogurt and lemon juice to create the sauce. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated chicken, onion, and bell peppers onto the soaked skewers, alternating the ingredients.
- Grill the skewers for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are charred and tender.
- Serve the Tavuk Şiş hot off the grill with the yogurt sauce on the side.
