Spicy Chicken Stew (Bhuna Murgir Jhol) is a traditional dish from Sylheti Cuisine, known for its bold flavors and aromatic spices. This hearty stew is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in 4 cups of water and bring the stew to a boil. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
