Spicy Chicken Stew (bhuna Murgir Jhol)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the diced tomatoes, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour in 4 cups of water and bring the stew to a boil. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
