Spicy Chicken Tagine (M'hammer)

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 lemon, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the chicken thighs with the chopped onions, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, cayenne pepper, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground turmeric, black pepper, and salt. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a tagine or large skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken thighs and brown them on all sides.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth and add the chopped cilantro and parsley. Place the lemon slices on top of the chicken.
  4. Cover and simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  5. Serve the M'hammer hot with couscous or crusty bread.
