Spicy Hunan Beef (湖南辣牛肉)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 5-6 dried red chili peppers
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, julienned
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Marinade:
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the beef slices with the marinade ingredients. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the dried red chili peppers and stir-fry for 30 seconds to release the aroma.
  3. Add the marinated beef slices and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  4. Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in the wok. Add the garlic, ginger, and green onions, and stir-fry for 1 minute.
  5. Return the beef to the wok and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until everything is well combined and the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.
  6. Transfer the spicy Hunan beef to a serving dish and serve hot with steamed rice.
