Spicy Hungarian Goulash (Gulyás)
Gulyás, also known as Hungarian Goulash, is a traditional and spicy stew that originated in Hungary. This hearty dish is perfect for warming up on a cold day and is packed with flavor from a blend of paprika, onions, and tender beef.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the beef over medium-high heat.
- Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Stir in the paprika, caraway seeds, and bay leaves, then pour in the beef broth.
- Simmer for 1.5 hours, then add the potatoes and continue cooking until the beef and potatoes are tender.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
