Spicy Hyderabadi Mutton Curry

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, pureed
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add the mutton pieces and cook until they turn brown.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  4. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the mutton. Cook for a few minutes, then pour in the water and bring to a boil.
  5. Cover and simmer for about 45-50 minutes or until the mutton is tender and the gravy thickens.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala, green chilies, and fresh coriander leaves. Cook for another 5 minutes and remove from heat.
  7. Spicy Hyderabadi Mutton Curry is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or naan.
