Spicy Kachila (तातेको कचिला)

तातेको कचिला (Spicy Kachila) is a traditional Newari dish that is popular in Nepal. It is a spicy and flavorful salad made with marinated buffalo meat, spices, and herbs.

Spicy Kachila (तातेको कचिला)

Ingredients

  • 500g buffalo meat, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2 tbsp roasted soybean powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 lemon, juiced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, marinate the buffalo meat with mustard oil, roasted soybean powder, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Let it marinate for 1 hour.
  2. Heat a pan on the stovetop and add the marinated buffalo meat. Cook on low heat for 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender.
  3. Once the meat is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Add green chilies, red onion, fresh coriander, fresh mint, and lemon juice to the cooked meat. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. तातेको कचिला (Spicy Kachila) is ready to be served. Garnish with additional fresh herbs if desired.
