Ingredients

  • 1 kg lamb, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-inch piece ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add lamb pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in tomato puree, yogurt, coriander powder, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Cover the pot and let the lamb cook in its own juices for 45-50 minutes, or until tender.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
