Ingredients

  • 3 lbs beef, cut into chunks

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cloves
  • 6 allspice berries
  • 1 hot pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the beef, cassareep, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, hot pepper, onion, garlic, brown sugar, and salt.
  2. Add enough water to cover the ingredients and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 2 hours or until the meat is tender.
  4. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed to keep the stew moist.
  5. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot.
