Spicy Misal Pav (मिसळ पाव)
मिसळ पाव (Spicy Misal Pav) is a popular Maharashtrian street food that consists of spicy sprouted lentils curry served with pav (bread rolls). It is a flavorful and spicy dish that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups mixed sprouted lentils
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 3-4 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 cup mixed farsan (spicy snack mix)
- 4 pav (bread rolls)
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add asafoetida, green chilies, and onions. Sauté until onions turn golden brown.
- Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
- Add the sprouted lentils and mix well. Add water as needed to achieve the desired consistency. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Adjust the seasoning and garnish with coriander leaves.
- To serve, place a pav in a plate, top it with the misal, and garnish with farsan and chopped onions.
