Spicy Mustard Pabda Fish (shorshe Pabda Jhal)

Ingredients

  • 4 pabda fish fillets
  • 2 tbsp mustard paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 cup mustard oil
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix mustard paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt to form a smooth paste.
  3. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish fillets until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the mustard paste mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add water and green chilies, then bring to a simmer.
  6. Gently slide the fried fish fillets into the gravy and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  7. Once the fish is cooked through and the gravy has thickened, remove from heat.
