Spicy Mutton Curry (peshawari Mutton Karahi)
Spicy Mutton Curry, also known as Peshawari Mutton Karahi, is a popular dish in Pakistani cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic curry is made with tender mutton pieces cooked in a rich and spicy gravy, perfect to be enjoyed with naan or steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 1 kg mutton, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add mutton pieces and cook until they are browned.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
- Whisk the yogurt and add it to the mutton. Cook for a few minutes until the yogurt is well incorporated.
- Add green chilies and garam masala. Cover the pan and let the mutton cook on low heat until tender.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or steamed rice.
