Spicy Mutton Curry (peshawari Mutton Karahi)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add mutton pieces and cook until they are browned.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
  4. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the mutton. Cook for a few minutes until the yogurt is well incorporated.
  5. Add green chilies and garam masala. Cover the pan and let the mutton cook on low heat until tender.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or steamed rice.
