Spicy Powder (mysore Chutney Pudi)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cup roasted chana dal
  • 10-12 dried red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the desiccated coconut in a pan until it turns golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, dry roast the roasted chana dal, dried red chilies, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds until fragrant. Let it cool.
  3. In a blender, combine the roasted coconut, roasted chana dal mixture, turmeric powder, asafoetida, tamarind paste, and salt. Grind to a coarse powder.
  4. Store the spicy powder in an airtight container once it has cooled completely.
