Spicy Powder (mysore Chutney Pudi)
Spicy Powder, also known as Mysore Chutney Pudi, is a popular condiment in Karnataka Cuisine. It is a flavorful and aromatic spice blend that can be used as a condiment or added to various dishes to enhance their flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- 1/2 cup roasted chana dal
- 10-12 dried red chilies
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Dry roast the desiccated coconut in a pan until it turns golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In the same pan, dry roast the roasted chana dal, dried red chilies, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds until fragrant. Let it cool.
- In a blender, combine the roasted coconut, roasted chana dal mixture, turmeric powder, asafoetida, tamarind paste, and salt. Grind to a coarse powder.
- Store the spicy powder in an airtight container once it has cooled completely.
